Who we are
Maria
Maria is our turtle expert and our big hero on the ground. Everything that has to do with the protection of wildlife in Lakonia brings you to her. Maria can understand the turtles and other animals like nobody else. Her energy has no limits when it comes to saving and protecting the Caretta caretta and other endangered species. Tirelessly, and with admirable dedication and conviction, she travels all over Lakonia to identify tracks, install protection measures or save an injured animal.
Iannis
Iannis is the guy who does the hard work in the background. In his calm and modest manner, he does whatever must be done to protect wildlife and is always there when needed. Together with Maria, Iannis visits the beaches of Lakonia to detect the traces of the turtles and do whatever it takes to protect them. With his infinite commitment towards the preservation of nature and wildlife in Lakonia, Iannis also motivates others to behave more respectfully towards nature.
Aris
Aris is the Chairman of the local Wildlife Rescue and Protection organisation Toulipa Goulimi , based in Neapolis, Lakonia. He keeps everything together and does all the important paper work so that Maria and Iannis can do the work in the field.
Whoever wants to become a member of Toulipa Goulimi should contact Aris. Just drop by his shoe shop in Neapolis town (and buy a pair of sandals for the beach)!
Barbara
Barbara is our professional networker and our strategic mind. With her analytical thinking and optimistic attitude, she makes things happen. As a sailor and world traveller, Barbara is confronted with the threats to marine wildlife and coastal flora. Not only is Barbara full of good ideas for future projects – she also has many years’ experience in environmental conservation and NGO work. It is Barbara’s insistence and her firm belief that we can achieve something that moves careCaretta forward
Pamela
Since a child, Pamela has been spending all her summers in Lakonia, the place of her family origins. The discovery of the sea turtle on her favourite beaches only a few years ago came as a big revelation to her, and since then the fascination for this beautiful animal has never left her. Driven by the wish to protect the sea turtles and to preserve the wildlife of Lakonia, Pamela contributes with her background in NGO work to raising funds for the protection of the Caretta caretta.
Jonas
Jonas is our film expert and design specialist. Already the first time he set foot in Greece as a young teenager with a bicycle, he fell in love with the Peloponnese. Then, three decades later, he fell in love with a woman from Lakonia and decided that Lakonia was among his favourite places on earth. When he nearly stumbled over a turtle laying eggs on the beach, he concluded that the protection of this fascinating animal deserved his full support.
